Cypaks award winning card innovation secures Swedish telecom infrastructure

Cypak AB, a Swedish technology innovator and developer of advanced RFID and low-cost embedded solutions, presents a new security solution preventing ID theft. It is today in use by a Swedish broadband and network provider for securing telecom infrastructure. The innovation, which has recently been awarded by the European Commission, is based on a contactless smart card for user verification directly on the card.

"ID theft is an increasing concern, both on the Internet and in the physical world. To protect our integrity we need new powerful security solutions, but yet easy to use and to an affordable price. PIN-on-card is our contribution," says Stina Ehrensvärd, Co-founder and VP Marketing at Cypak.

PIN never leaves the card
When placed on a simple card reader connected to a computer the card can connect automatically to an Internet based service and exchange highly secured data. Users can identify and authenticate themselves by entering their PIN-code directly on the card. The card reader can also be mounted on a wall, connected to a door entrance for secure access to buildings or utilities.

As opposed to other information security solutions where passwords are entered on the computer keypad, no sensitive information is stored on the computer's hard disc. Secret keys are secured with powerful encryption on the card and cannot be copied or intercepted by viruses and Trojans. The system has been successfully validated by leading crypto and security experts.

With a new low cost RFID (Radio Frequency Identification) communication method and a keypad that is integrated into the card, Cypak PIN-on-Card provides military class security at an unbeatable cost.

Securing Swedish telecom infrastructure
To prove the concept and the broad features of the PIN-on-Card technology Cypak has developed a complete security system, combining physical and system access control with alarm and equipment monitoring in one unit, all managed securely over the Internet. It is available today through Cypak's partner Nodex (http://www.nodex.se), a Swedish security and building automation company.

The system is successfully validated in several customer installations. NAVAB, a Swedish broadband and network provider uses the solution today for monitoring and securing green field sights with telecom equipment.

"We use Cypak PIN-on-Card and the complete security system for securing access and audit trail to our telecom infrastructure. The technology fulfils all our requirements; it's easy to use, low cost and provides the highest level of security," says Tony Hadarson, Senior Communication Specialist, NAVAB.

Broad range of applications
Future applications using PIN-on-Card technology could include existing contactless smart cards, credit cards, ID cards, on-line gaming cards, e-banking access solutions and other types of authentication tokens.

The solution has been selected by the European Commission as an IST (Information Society Technology) Prize Winner to represent the best of European IT innovations. Cypak will be demonstrating the technology at the European IST event in The Hague, the Netherlands, November 15-17.

Evaluation kits of Cypak PIN-on-Card are available to order at http://www.cypak.com, at the price of Euro 500 each.
