Technology Summary

Cypak supplies key modules and ASICs for Connected Health and smart packaging.

Cypak technology covers ASIC design, printed electronics, low power, NFC and other short-range RFID communications, and embedded firmware.

Cypak also designs and produces complete electronic modules and a Continua certified reader for Personal Health Devices.

Programmable ASIC

The Cypak programmable Application Specific Integrated Circuit (ASIC) is unique in the world of monitoring. Unparalleled flexibility is provided by over 30 configurable Input/Output connections, for either digital or analogue sensoring.

Printed electronics

Printed connections are a low cost solution for interfacing with sensors. Sensors themselves may be printed, as may the antenna.

Low power

Typical devices are battery powered and designed for a long useful life without battery replacement. Three power states are provided - Coma, Sleep, and Active. The ASIC operates from received RF power if necessary, while recorded data is retained even when the battery is empty.

RFID/NFC

RFID is used to program each Cypak device and to read the logged data. Depending on firmware, the ASIC supports the leading HF standards and, with appropriate external circuits, can also be addressed by UHF readers.

Cypak supply for interfaces to external networks, for example:
  • NFC enabled mobile phones and readers
  • USB
  • GSM/GPRS

Embedded software

The Cypak ASIC includes 32kByte of on-board EEPROM memory. This memory contains Cypak operating software, logged data, application parameters, and communication protocols. Customer applications may also be embedded, as can Cypak interfaces to ISO/IEEE 11073 standards for medical devices.

Other experience

  • Encryption
  • Authentication
  • Tamper proof packaging
  • Temperature monitoring
  • Product prototyping for trials and production
